Would You Rather for kids
Press Next card to draw one.
160 kind, silly two-choice cards for ages 4 to 12. Pick an age, draw a card, and let kids choose a side. Point left or right — or walk to that side of the room.
Theme
Would you rather questions give kids two choices and one easy job: pick a side and say why. There are no wrong answers, so shy kids join in and chatty kids get a short, fun turn. This page has 160 of them, sorted by age from kindergarten (ages 4–6) to 4th and 5th grade (ages 10–12). Use the card picker above to draw one at a time, show it fullscreen on the classroom board, or print the whole set.
How to Play Would You Rather with Kids
- Pick an age in the picker so the choices fit your group.
- Read both choices aloud. Younger kids may need to hear them twice.
- Everyone picks a side. Point left or right, give a thumbs up or down, or walk to one side of the room.
- Ask two or three kids "Why?" A 30-second timer keeps turns short.
- Press Next card. Cards don't repeat until every card for your filters has been used.
One round takes about two minutes: 15 seconds to read the card, 15 seconds to choose, and up to 30 seconds each for two or three reasons. Plan on five cards for a 10-minute morning meeting, or a single card when you only need a quick reset.
Using the Card Picker
Tap an age to narrow the deck, then add a theme: Silly, Animals, Food, School, Superpowers, or Outdoors. The badge under the card shows how many cards match, so you know how long the set will last.
The timer under the card is set to 30 seconds. Start it when a child begins to explain, and move on when it runs out.
In the Classroom: Pick a Side
Label one wall "A" and the other "B" and let kids walk to their choice. It works as a morning meeting warm-up, a brain break between lessons, or a two-minute filler before the bell. Press Present fullscreen to put the card on the projector in big text.
With 20 to 30 kids, give a clear signal before anyone moves: "When I say go, walk to your side." Count down from five, then ask one child from each wall to share. Kids who prefer to stay seated can point, and that counts as a full turn.
At Home, in the Car, or at Dinner
Read a card aloud and take turns answering. Kids love asking the grown-ups, too. The picker works on a phone, so you can use it anywhere.
With a Big Group: Four Corners
Draw two cards at once and give each corner of the room one of the four choices. Kids walk to their favorite corner, and each corner shares one reason.
Four corners suits groups of 12 or more. Allow about three minutes per round.

Printable Would You Rather Cards
Press Print cards in the picker to open a printable sheet of cut-out cards. The sheet includes only the ages and themes you selected, so you can print a kindergarten set and a 5th grade set separately.
The sheet opens in a new window, so allow pop-ups if nothing appears. Cut the cards apart and keep each age set in its own envelope or on a ring.
Printed cards work well for partner talk. Each pair draws one card, answers it, and trades with another pair after two minutes.
Tips for Teachers and Parents
Always Ask "Why?"
The choice takes a second; the reason is where the talking happens. Ask one or two kids to explain, and invite others to say if they agree.
Keep Both Choices Kind
Every card here offers two fun choices. None of them is about money, looks, or anything a child might not be able to do. If you write your own, keep both sides happy ones.
Let Kids Write Their Own
After a few rounds, ask kids to write a would you rather question for the class. It is a quick writing prompt, and they will want to hear everyone answer it.
Adjust for Each Age Group
Ages 4–6: read the card twice, hold up one hand for each choice, and accept a one-word reason. Three or four cards is plenty for one sitting.
Ages 7–9: ask for a full sentence that starts with "I would rather ... because ...". Let partners tell each other first for 30 seconds, then call on two volunteers.
Ages 10–12: ask for two reasons, or have a child argue for the side they did not pick. A card such as "Would you rather be an inventor or an explorer?" can fill five minutes of friendly debate.
When a Child Won't Choose
Some kids freeze when both sides sound good, or when they are unsure what their friends will pick. Offer a pass and come back after two more kids have answered. You can also let them stand in the middle and say one good thing about each side.
Never make a child defend a choice in front of the group. Pointing is enough, and a child who only points today may speak up next time.
Turn a Card into Writing or a Graph
For a writing follow-up, put one card on the board and give kids five minutes to write their choice and three reasons. Younger kids can draw their pick and label it with one word.
For a graph, tally the votes for each side on the board and have kids draw a two-bar chart. Then ask which side had more, and how many more.

What are good questions to ask a 5-year-old?
Keep them short and concrete: animals, food, colors, and play. The ages 4–6 list above is written for kindergarten and pre-K.
